40/80 Anniversary Campaign

A LOOK BACK WITH A VIEW TO THE FUTURE
In the summer of 1967, RSCM America held its first summer training course in Princeton, New Jersey. As we begin our 40th Anniversary Year of Summer Courses, the venues and offerings have greatly expanded, but the original vision remains the same. Our goal is to offer exceptional, challenging musical experiences, learning, and fun in the midst of a wonderful community. It is a remarkable accomplishment, not the least because it has been achieved by dedicated volunteers who have devoted themselves to this mission.

Likewise, the RSCM is marking a milestone as its 80th Anniversary Year begins in late 2007. From its small beginnings in 1927, the RSCM has become an international organization, promoting excellence in music in worship and in the wider community. I am honored to be a part of this worldwide community, and I am thankful that you are as well.

This year also marks our return to Princeton, relocating our national RSCM America office there. Our presence at Westminster Choir College affords us increased visibility and opportunity to introduce a wider community to the educational resources and offerings of RSCM America, reaching out to musicians in churches of many denominations as well as schools and community organizations.

In looking back, we can see how far we’ve come. However, our attention mustn’t stay on the review mirror. I invite you to join me in looking forward to what we can become, and what we should do to remain a vibrant voice of excellence in this growing and changing culture. As we celebrate all the good things, let’s find the best and most worthy way to carry forward, and discover new avenues to broaden our mission.

THE DREAM
With this vision in mind, the Board of Directors of RSCM America has initiated the 40/80 Anniversary Campaign. Our desire is to raise funds in excess of $80,000 to be earmarked for the following areas of growth and mission:

  • 25% to create and distribute professionally-designed materials which promote the mission of RSCM to an ever-widening community of churches, schools and communities
  • 25% to provide seed money to start new training courses for organists, choir trainers, and adult singers
  • 50% to create a national training course scholarship fund, to make summer training courses available to all who wish to attend

THE GIFT
A generous supporter and avid amateur singer has pledged $18,000 this spring (over 20% of our goal!) to kick off the 40/80 Campaign, and to challenge and encourage others who believe in this mission to join him in supporting it.

THE RESPONSE
The Board of Directors is most grateful to this donor. We invite you to rise to his challenge, to give a gift and to join in the enthusiastic “Choir of Support.” Each gift, whether great or small, contributes mightily to our future. Each gift encourages others to do the same. All gifts are tax deductible.
